There are ways to prevent weeds rather than kill weeds, such as: using landscape fabric, mulch, rocks, planting wide or low spreading shrubs and really being on top of any newly sprouted weeds. They are much easier to pull when their roots haven't grown deep.

Here is the link to the article about the couple who won the lawsuit against Monsanto. According to the the article they will receive an additional $55Million for pain, suffering and expenses.
